Greetings, Friends, and Families

Summer is here, and so much is happening that I am unsure where to begin. So many excellent programs and projects are happening at Artists and Musicians of Latin America (AMLA) at Esperanza Arts Center (EAC), and I am working on several musical commissions.

AMLA’s Summer Program

AMLA’s summer workshop, Latin Jazz; Yesterday and Today, explores the genre creatively, symbolically, historically, and physically. Students will be exploring improvisation through their instruments and discover Philadelphia's Latin Jazz Legends and Musical improvisation. 

We are offering lessons in Vocals/Guitar/Bass/Violin/Piano/Percussion/Drums.

Students will work in group classes and perform in an ensemble.

New Album

Sonetos de Amor Oscuro

Release Date; August 19, 2022

These songs are the words of Federico García Lorca from a deep watery grave, recounting a forbidden love amid a civil war. The Sonnets of Dark love sonically retrace the secret affair of Lorca and Juan Ramírez de Lucas. The strings, sympathetic and jarring at times, are the emotional waves that come from a painful longing for a desire so unwavering for unrequited love. This album is a sonic unearthing of unrequited queer love, palpable yet distant.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant Latino cultures found across our city.  Enjoy a festive block party-style atmosphere complete with Latin food, Salsa music, and dancing with Lia Montalvo y Su Orquesta and local vendors before heading inside to Teatro Esperanza for performances by Argentinian pianist Emiliano Messiez and his quartet and performances and dance lessons with members of the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School.
